Mapua is the only institution in the Philippines using the Quarter System of education, which divides one school year into four (4) terms.  Under the system, students are only given a maximum of fifteen (15) units per term, with longer number of classroom hours per week per unit. This, in turn, would compensate for the shorter number of weeks per term.  Aside from giving students a more manageable academic load, the system also enables students to finish a specific program one year ahead than the usual.

Mapua is the only Philippine institution which applied for accreditation at the United States-based organization, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This certification, once granted, would make Mapua programs equivalent to the university programs in the United States.

In the past eight years, Mapua produced 20 Board 1st Placers in the fields of Engineering and Architecture and is the only school in the Philippines to have the most number of Level III PACUCOA accredited Engineering programs.

The success of the efforts of the Institute to establish a culture of excellence in education is firmly evidenced by the high performance of its graduates in the licensure examinations, consistently placing in the top ten, and maintaining high passing percentage rates. This accounts for the high demand for Mapua graduates by private and government institutions, where a big number of important positions are occupied by alumni of the Institute.

To ensure quality education, the Institute employs outstanding faculty members who are highly qualified in terms of academic degrees and teaching experience. The qualifications of these teachers are enhanced through scholarship grants for higher learning as well as attendance in conventions and seminars to keep them abreast with the latest teaching approaches. Excellence in teaching is always encouraged, acknowledged and rewarded.

Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT, Mapua Tech or simply Mapua) is a private, non-sectarian, Filipino tertiary institute located in Intramuros, Manila and in Makati. It was founded by Don Tomas Mapua in 1925.

The institute is a reputable source of architects, engineers and science graduates and topnotchers in the architectural and engineering licensure exam.

As of 2006, diplomas and official documents issued by the institute includes a footnote with the message – Malayan Colleges operating under the name of Mapua Institute of Technology noting the implementation of the name change of the administration.
